Poems

Utopia
By Emily Leto

I woke up in the middle of a dream,
In a mystical place,
My eyes were wet,
Once the flash backs consumed my mind;

Remembering is too painful,
I try to forget,
So I create a world,
Where it‘s always cheerful,
Without any sadness or obstacles;

A pleasant green scenery,
Covered by patches of exuberant flowers,
With plenty of wildlife,
Made me feel something that I haven’t felt in a while;

Prancing around with joy and freedom,
Without a single drop of sadness,
Was beginning to be a normal routine,
And was something worth getting used to;

Everything became perfect,
As soon as I met him,
The shadow of my previous love,
He made me forget,
And live on happily;

Life itself was bearable,
Especially when you’re with one,
That makes you the happiest,
Nothing is wrong,
Everything is right;

Until the flashes come back,
The memories don’t disappear,
But neither increase;

Just pretending to be strong,
Will not remove the previous love,
That has been holding me down,
For so long;

I finally remember,
What you once told me,
Under that red sky at sunset;

 Those words were so dear to me,
I’m ashamed that I forgot them,
That the moonlight during the darkness,
Is the guide you gave to me;

I woke up,
From that mystical place,
My eyes were wet,
Only thinking one thing,
“Please come back.”
